Frances’s work draws from the powerful aesthetic of Asian design elements. She strives for serenity in a world inundated by input: eliminating the unnecessary so the necessary may speak. Each piece grows from as many as 30 layers of oil glazes that give the surface a muted luminosity and depth. She explores non-objective line, squares, symbolic circles, and the relationship among color, content and opposites. The work reflects the juxtaposition of complexities versus simplicities; large simplistic planes of subdued color fused with complex shapes and spontaneous gestural lines. The result is a harmony of opposites that delivers us into an image without beginning or end.
