Nyla Witmore, a professional painter for nearly 30 years, works primarily in oils. Her subject matter focuses on intimate landscapes, usually buildings and close-in views. Subjects include Colorado landscape, Paris cafe scenes, Monet’s Garden, French and Italian countryside, and Holland canals. She considers herself a “lyrical representational/impressionist”. With roots in abstractionism, she moves easily between genres, with abstract representing her “alter ego.” These paintings, some large in scale, include non-objective and “musical interpretations”. Nyla was asked to paint on stage for an opening concert with the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra in 2007, interpreting a selection in real time.
